Hello,
BF and I have decided to move from Atlanta to Tampa this summer & could use some suggestions on the best places to stay. We're both early 30s, no kids yet, no pets. BF would like to be in a walkable neighborhood although I've read Tampa's not necessarily walkable per se. (would rather not live in a walkable slum if you catch my drift!) We'd much prefer a nicer area with malls, restaurants, entertainment with a "walkable" park nearby. Also he likes to bike, play tennis & swim so some nearby outdoors'y stuff would be nice. Ideally, we'd like to rent while getting familiar with the neighborhoods and what the bay area has to offer. Open to Tampa, Clearwater, or St. Pete. I'll be telecommuting so any part is fine with me. BF will be finishing up grad school & looking for work in accounting/finance, so perhaps something somewhat centrally located would be best, since not sure where he'll find work yet.

TIA

Where is your employment and the hours you will be working.
Will be telecommuting so not a problem for me, although some place close to (within 30 mins) to downtown would be ideal. BF will be looking for work in accounting/finance arena so we probably won't want to be too far out in the 'burbs.

What is your budget for housing. Do you want to rent or buy?
Rent for now (somewhere in the $1000/mo range), would like to buy in the future ($200k range). Ideally I'd like if we could find an area where we wouldn't mind purchasing in the future.

Are schools a concern?
No kids for now, although in the near future, so good schools are a definite plus!

What is an acceptable commute time?
30 mins radius to central (downtown I guess) location

What else is important to you?

safety, proximity to grocery, shops, etc. proximity to hiking/biking trails if possible, affordable homes nearby.

I'd live on Harbor Island, Davis Islands, or in one of those high rise places in downtown Tampa or near Channelside (or even downtown St Pete) if I were young and wanted a little nightlife.

I am relocating to the Tampa area this summer and would like suggestions on places, ?Land O Lakes, Trinity, Lutz, Wesley Chapel. In my early sixties so I don't want a family oriented community, been there done that. What about THe Groves, Plantation Palms, or Heritage Springs in Trintiy. I guess really looking for 55 and over with peace and quiet or quiet residental non gated community.
Any suugestions would be helpful.

Hi char727. I live very close to Plantation Palms and can tell you it is very nice, but it is gated and built around a golf course.

There are a few 55 and over communities around here (Land O Lakes - where I live), but there are also numerous subdivisions that don't have the gates.

I love the feel of Land O Lakes - It is perfect for me and my family.

If you want something more specific please let me know. Your cost for housing can vary significantly throughout Wesley Chapel, Lutz, Land O Lakes and Trinity.

Please do good research for areas, taxes, HOA, and CDD. All these taxes/fees can vary significantly!
