Infact this place is quite lovely and I'm glad I live here. Hopefully you dont anymore!
I won't debate the point with you. I don't want to turn this into my own Brandon-bashing thread. But I'd be curious to hear what you like about it. Honestly, the only redeeming feature I can think of is that it's location might be convenient being by the I-75/I-4 interchange. Other than that...

Fantastic neighborhoods
Nice and courteous neighbors
Mall near by
All sorts of places to eat within a 10 minute drive ranging from 5 dollar meals to 50+ meals.
Nearly all major shopping stores
Much better pricing on houses
No real "rough" areas in Brandon like there are randomly in tampa. The area nearest Tampa is kinda iffy, but that's really about it IMO.

I don't think you will have any problems in Tampa Bay area. I know of at least one subdivision that has really gone downhill in Brandon. I prefer Valrico area as the homes are bigger and IMO prettier area.

I'm not going to lie, the area is conservative and traditional. There shouldn't be blatant discrimination, but more like talking behind your back.

I would liken it to the tv show about Abbey Lee Miller and the moms who take their children to dance--just a lot of bored mothers with nothing better to do than talk s***t about other people and not mind their own business.

Brandon will definitely give you more for your money. However, South Tampa is actually quite close to Brandon via the Crosstown Expressway, so you could look there too and still manage work commute.

I live in Seminole Heights and we have a lot of gay neighbors. It is more affordable than South Tampa, but parts of it are not that nice... the historic district (Old Seminole Heights) is really nice, though. I think it is a great place to live. I would think Seminole Heights would be one of the most gay friendly places in Tampa. I hear that parts of St. Pete (especially Kenwood) are really gay friendly as well.

I agree Seminole Heights would be a good selection if you do not mind older homes. It is similar to S. Tampa but it doesn't have as much shopping or restaurants. You have to be careful and stay west of I275 and Florida.

We relocated from the Midwest to the neighborhood of Forest Hills in north Tampa, and love it overall. We live west of I-275 and it is fairly diverse in all aspects, and we don't have any issues. It's pretty much live and let live. It's also barely in the city limits, so you would also be able to register with the city of Tampa as domestic partners, if you so choose to do so.

The gay couple I know live in Brandon with their two children and have no issues with their neighbors. To be honest this really surprised me, but they love it there. I do admire both of them for being straightforward (pardon the pun) about who they are with no apologies to others.
