Tampa Homes Storage Space
Hi.
My wife and I were looking at some floor plans for some new housing in Tampa and since most homes dont have basements or attics, where do
most people store there stuff beside closets? Do they put it in the garage
or have a shed in the backyard?
Up north, where we are most homes have basements and/or attic to keep things. But if you have a family with a couple of kids I would imagine space would be tight without a basement or attic.
Any info on this would be appreciated.

storage
Some communities do allow sheds, most don't. It depends what type of a community you are building in. Find out ahead of time and save yourself some anguish. If your building a new home, either build with a three car garage or an extra bedroom or one that has an extra closet or large closets

I have seen that most people get a house with a 3 car garage and use that for their storage or the entire garage. It can be expensive renting storage. Moderator cut: realtor soliciting

For storage, if you dont have an attic above the garage, than a Bonus Room, or Third Car Garage.

Have a big garage/yard sale before moving. Most northerns pay to ship it down here and then have the sale.Hmmmm

There also is self storage areas that you can rent out by month/year, but I agree that you should clean out your junk prior to moving.

Depending on your roof design, you can build/create a lot of storage in your attic even if the builder did not do it for you. On my house, the attic above the garage is over 6' tall and I was able to put in a plywood floor and create some shelves to store items that are NOT heat sensitive.
Needless to say, during the summer attics will get extremely hot so you can't store items that will be damaged by the heat.....

The problem is getting your stuff up there.
The pull-down attic stairs in most homes are very skinny and often weak. I wouldn't want to carry a chest of drawers up into the attic.
