Finally moving in two weeks after a looooong search, and I'm still a little worried about the commute to downtown Tampa. Thankfully I have a job that allows me to come and go at whatever time I deem necessary, so I am able to skip rush hours most of the time. Please let me know what experiences you've had, if you live in Lakeland. Also, should I be posting in the Orlando forum as well, seeing that I'll be 35 miles to downtown Tampa and 36 miles to Disney?

Lakeland isn't a bad area. It's going to be a bit of a commute to Tampa, but I am posted at a Tampa location right now and making the commute at night... if you don't mind driving, it will be ok.

And Disney isn't in Orlando. It's actually in Lake Buena Vista and Bay Lake. Since you are moving here, thats a good fact to remember.

My husband drove from Lakeland to downtown Tampa every day for 2 years, depending on traffic etc. usually about 45 - 50 minutes. Not too bad except it's on I-4, not a nice highway to drive on.

Your commute won't be anyworse than people living "in" Tampa such as the New Tampa, Westchase or Valrico areas. Commute is just one of the downfalls of Tampa I think. It's got a lot making up for it with beaches, theme parks, affordability etc. I had a 45 min commute for 2 years and it was long but not too bad. I think parts of Lakeland would be worth the commute. Good Luck!
