I've lived here (Pinellas) since 1987.......a few observations:

-Tampa Bay (especially Pinellas) is LOADED with small /medium companies.

-Per capita.....there seems to be a huge lack of medium/large companies.

-Other than Publix.....everywhere I look, I see "poor examples"
representing thier given industries- it seems like our businesses in this area operate with a larger degree of unprofessionalism and lower pay than the same businesses elsewhere

-In the late 80's and 90's...there seemed to be enough jobs for the population of the area, then the terrible real estate nightmare over-ran this area. Other than jobs related to the housing boom, hardly any jobs were created to keep up with the population increase.

-Professional pay is lower here than most other states

-I have several friends who moved to states in the "deep south" in order to make more money than in the Tampa Bay area.

-There just seems to be a general "who gives a sh#t" attitude towards work and employee compensation.

-Alabama and Mississippi have auto plants and ship building yards that pay great wages.......why can't Florida (and Tampa Bay) come out of the "dark ages" as it pertains to jobs and wages?

-Just an example: an aircraft mechanic will make more money......BY MOVING TO SOUTH CAROLINA than staying in the Tampa Bay area.

I have my theories as to why this takes place..and could discuss this for DAYS......so my question is.....

What gives?
