This is foolish logic. Everyone's time is worth money. There is no reason to spend five extra minutes waiting for a sub if there is an easy way to avoid it. Welcome to technology....

I don't see this making a good business sense though, IMO.
So based on your local publix you have concluded it can't makes sense for all of the Publix stores. Yikes.

Some are very busy for lunch and people don't even bother going due to the wait.

I have personally stood in line for twenty minutes for a Publix sub. They are that much better than Subway. Anything that makes it faster is good in my book. In fact I've been thinking for awhile that they ought to spin off the sub shop as a separate business. They could put them next to Publix similar to how liquor stores are often right next to the grocery. They could easily supply the stores from next door but could get sub buyers in and out much more efficiently. Mmmm, Publix subs... now I want one!

Liquor stores are only separate due to laws I believe. That idea seems much more of a hassle.

I have been in a publix that has it's own register by the deli so I think they have set up ones to be more efficient for the lunch crowd.

Well if they ALL had a register at the deli, that would help, and if the deli was at the front of the store. And a drive-thru would be great, even if it was only to pick up pre-orders. All the ones by me have the deli buried all the way in the back, a long line, and deli workers who are also serving the fried chicken, slicing deli meats, etc. But I don't see how it would be MORE of a hassle to go to a store that was dedicated to subs and had sufficient workers to build them who didn't have other responsibilities as well, than it is to swim through a grocery where the subs are basically an afterthought.

By the way, I wasn't suggesting that someone pass a law requiring the Publix sub shop to be separate like liquor stores, merely that it would be more convenient for customers, and elaborating on an idea for how that could be easily accomplished without the need to truck fresh bread and Boar's Heads meats all over town.

I agree with you. It's the same situation no matter what Publix I have ever been in, in any town. Who knows? Maybe the online ordering first, and if it really takes off they might justify having a separate shop, or at least something more convenient within the stores.
