Let's see.... I have no interest in having a State Income Tax like NY has to help pay for Mass Transit. I have no desire to sit outside in the sun or an afternoon thunderstorm waiting for mass transit. I have no desire to ride mass transit unless it can get from point A to point B faster and cheaper than my car and being comfortable and convenient to my schedule in doing so.
Mass transit works in places that have a city hub and where the criteria above are met. As long as there is plenty of affordable parking in Down Town and you aren't saving any time riding Mass Transit it will never take off.
And back to my original statement - I have no interest having a state income tax to subsidize mass transit in an area that frankly... doesn't need it.

I agree! As ideal as it sounds on paper it will never work here because the distances between places are too big, and the weather is the least bit friendly. Plus, what if you have more than one place to go to in one day?
Mass transit works in NYC because the city was built for it, and with it in mind from day one. Florida was always a land of retirees (from NYC ) and therefore people who came here a long time ago wanted space, privacy and distance between homes. Of course that changed with time and now everyone wants to live here and zero lot line became popular........BUT FL was never built with mass transit in mind.

Anything can be built anywhere,,, ask the Army Corps of Engineers,,, and local taxis, short buses and jitneys can just roll on what is here,,, it is that nobody wants it. simple as that.

Hey, if you feel like waiting 30+ minutes for a bus in a downpour with thunder and lightning all around you...be my guest! I am not going to do that.
The ONLY mode of mass transportation that would EVER work here would be a MONORAIL! I know it sounds crazy, but its air conditioned, it can travel faster than a bus, and it is suspended up in the air not taking up more lanes of traffic. Like the one they have in Miami. Of course in a perfect world architects would actually get to design it really cool...and it would have overpass covered bridges over Dale Mabry for pedestrians etc etc etc But of course that is way to SciFi for our local Gov! We should bring back the horse and buggy instead! get the "real horse power" back! hahahahahahahahaha

My car was wrecked in Miami n I had to take the buses for few weeks and I did get rained on etc. n took extra shoes with me to the office, but at least I had a way... now-- I pray nothing happens and car rental ins. is a must, but if the car gets sick -I am in trouble! My family has moved away to the city... My waits fro buses were 15 min or so and one good thing,, I weighed much less as you walk more there.

Am I the only one who tires of hearing people from NY talk about how Tampa sucks because it's not NY? Or NY is better because of this and that? Hey guess what. This isn't NY. Only NY is like NY. Guess what! Most sunbelt cities have crappy Mass Transit. Tampa is the.... 53rd most populous city in the nation. Hillsborough County is the 30th most populous in the nation..... Gee - I wonder why mass transit stinks here. Miami-Dade County is the 7th most populous
List of the most populous counties in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
have even more fun... sort it by density. Imagine that.... New York has the top 4 spots if you do this. San Francisco comes in at 5.
It's pretty simple. If things are spread out you have less riders going to each destination.... meaning mass transit may not be viable.

So true! I cannot believe it's still legal to text and drive in Florida. I've even seen police officers texting and driving. I will look at my mobile device while sitting at stop lights but I won't do it when driving. I wonder how much or even if the built-in displays in vehicles play into this scenario.
