We are looking to buy a vacation home that will ultimately be our retirement home. Would like 3+ beds, 3+baths and a 3 car garage under $300k - its all about the three's. We are looking for a great neighborhood close to restaurants, shopping, entertainment. 30 minutes to the beach is ok, don't need to be on a golf course but wouldn't mind quick access. Low/no crime, school districts are not a concern for us. I've read threads that mention Old Northeast? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Safety Harbor, Palm Harbor, Westchase and even over to sections of Odessa will give you some options. The three bath may cut down the # of properties or will just get you a bigger home.
How far is okay for shopping, restaurants, and shopping??

I agree with all of this. You will have to act quickly though. Homes at prices in the range you are looking at in those areas go FAST!

Agreed, under 300k are moving quickly and inventory is shrinking. If you are interested in purchasing a home right now both the buyer and the agent need to be on the ball.

Check out my blog for a write up on this very subject.
