TAMPA --

Tampa leads the nation in income tax-refund fraud, racking up more than the next three cities combined, according to a new report by a federal watchdog agency.

The study by the Internal Revenue Service's inspector general examined tax filings from 2011 and concluded that the IRS fails to catch billions of dollars in fraudulent tax returns.

"Undetected tax refund fraud results in significant unintended federal outlays and erodes taxpayer confidence in our nation's tax system," the report says.

The IRS failed to detect more than $5.2 billion in potentially fraudulent tax refunds last year and could end up issuing another $21 billion in fraudulent refunds nationwide if it fails to make changes, the report says.

Default WOW! Tampa #1 in Tax Fraud!?

Tampa is No. 1 in tax fraud | TBO.com

I have to assume this was triggered by not finding appropriate wages, and not something people living here do for entertainment!

Yes, and insurance in Florida is higher because so many people down here also do insurance fraud.

If all these transplants didn't move down here from NY and other northern states, Tampa wouldn't have this unflattering designation, imo.

But i agree, sometimes we get all the rejects who can't make anything of themselves up north...maybe we should curb immigration at "state levels" too! Lolol as a last resort...

We have a higher than normal percentage of welfare people with access to the internet and nothing better to do. I have seen pictures and video of most of the people they have arrested for this, and they are mostly all that demographic
