Don't come here. You already have the mindset it is a bad area, you are going to be poor and you are being selfish. Once something bad happens or a life challenge occurs you'll tell yourself you never should have moved here and will begin the countdown to get out of here.

Stay where you are - you already think its going to be worse here.

As we house hunted, i had a sick feeling of guilt and worry that I can not bring my children back to this area. When I look at the area, I see far too much poverty and despair. I see tired neighborhoods ( even west chase) I see awful, violent schools and too many uneducated, under employed desperate people. We are very fortunate financially the last few years. We make are 190k a year. If we move to Tampa our income would drop to about 110k. The problem is I miss living in the area but am so torn. I miss friends, beaches and the relaxed lifestyle. The bible thumpers here in nc are awful to be around and my work environment is terribly urban and depressing. Some insight here would be greatly appreciated.

190K a year and you're looking for sympathy ?

I'm having a hard time understanding why you would be willing to give up 80k a year to move to Tampa of all places. Charlotte is not the best city in NC, imo, but it's not that bad.

Focusing on only the good is fine but there are negatives and trying to point out any negatives about the area is a lesson in futility and basically not allowed, any negatives that newcomers could be warned about are quickly shouted down leaving new comers to learn any negatives about Florida the hard way as Florida apparently is just about warm weather and beaches. period.

except that this guy is not a newcomer, he lived here before, and fairly recently.

That said, I agree with FloridaKash, the OP should not come here. I don't even know why he is entertaining the idea.

.
Maybe being reminded of a forgotten negative might influence the direction of his move.
However the op seems to have answered his own question about moving back to Tampa.

This doesnt sound like something most people would be happy moving to..
OP have you looked at coastal NC?

In this economy I'd stay with 190k job as long as it exists. If that job were to evaporate then I'd follow my heart.

He's probably daring to think for himself or something outrageous and offensive like that.
