Not exactly. Yes, there are lots of snowbirds there in winter, and retirees all year, but the downtown is quite lively and eclectic and caters to all ages. There seem to be lots of families around as well. I'm constantly seeing the high school band playing at some even when I'm down there in the winter. I'm thinking there are some neighbourhoods that are better for families than others, but I'm not sure what they would be--maybe Countryside (which is technically in Clearwater.) Or Eastlake, which is north.

This is Florida, you will find seniors EVERYWHERE. So what? Most of them don't have cooties or anything and they are mostly quiet, go places early and leave; and then you have places all to yourselves later in the evenings!

I would also mention the Dunedin Causeway and Honeymoon Island is awesome with lots of activity along it. Also some great place to hang out around there - Island Outpost and Cricketers are two of my favorites.

Also with the Pinellas Trail running thru it there is plenty of good exercise opportunities. The city pool is very nice too.

my hubby and i decided we can't live in Dunedin because of the commutes to st Pete and Tampa but its a really great town. Nice walkable and bike able areas and it felt pretty safe.

If you have a young family it is NOT good to live where only seniors live. My son moved to a house and has 3 kids and NO friends anywhere in the nighborhood, and the seniors always looking down their noses at the kids, playing or riding bikes etc so,,, depends who wants to live where- I got OUT of the over 55+ -felt like I was going to a TOMB every night. nahh

I think Dunedin has more than just senior citizens living there. But I agree, it does seem like a retirement area.

We visited Dunedin at least three times. We loved the area. It has a very quaint downtown that has something that appeals to almost every taste and age. Most of the home in the immediate area of downtown are of the cottage type (small with no pools). When we went there we saw families with young children (have no idea if they were locals or tourists) getting ice cream waiting in line with senior citizens who appeared to be enjoying the night air just as much as the younger ones.
I have no idea about the quality of the local schools but we did notice that there was a Catholic grammar school in the area.
