Does Tampa have a vibrant music scene? Can't locate much info about it online. Thanks.

Vibrant? No. It really depends on what your interests are though. The Tampa Bay area attracts a lot of retreads and 401k tours. Acts from decades past usually swing through as they try to make up for all that excess spending in their youth and attempt to shore up their finances as they head into retirement.

The Forum gets the major corporate products that go on nationwide stadium tours.
The Mahaffey and Ruth Eckerd Hall get a diverse range of acts that appeal to people post 40 yrs. old on a date.
Crobar in Ybor City gets the modern indy acts
State Theatre gets the less popular modern indy acts, punk bands, some hip hop, some retreads)
Skippers Smokehouse gets the WMNF acts (hippie, rockabilly, folk, singer songwriter)
Jannus Landing is a mixed bag (rock, tribute bands, some hip hop occasionally)

To a certain extent, it seems that bands are unwilling to travel down into Florida, or if they do, they usually will hit Orlando or South Florida rather than Tampa.
