Coming in for a conference 1/12-1/21 & staying @

Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina
700 South Florida Avenue
Tampa, Florida 33602

What is there to do in the area for a young family at this time of year that doesn't bust the wallet too much?? What is typical weather then? Is it swimming weather?

Is this a family friendly area? Is this a walkable area to the beach? Any help for an ignorant northerner is very appreciated! We're trying to decide if it would be a fun trip for the kids 6 and 3 or not.

Thanks,
Jamie

Go to museums in the local area. Curtis Hixon park usually has events on the weekends. Typical weather is chilly and not swimming weather. The beach isn't close by so I wouldn't even consider it.

There's a lot of places that the kids would enjoy.

Everything here costs $15-20 per ticket. Nothing cheap, not even that kids museum.

The Aquarium is really nice, and a great place for kids. Not free, of course. Perhaps there are multi-site entry passes for families? Anyone know?

In January I also would not bother trekking to the beach, unless you get especially warm weather. Water won't be swimmable in any case, unless you're used to fairly cool water.

If you have a car, you could take them down to see the manatees south of Tampa. That's free and fun:

Aquarium is near Channelside - walkig distance or trolley distance from points in downtown Tampa. Admission isn't cheap, though. But that's a good idea.
