Hello,
My family is coming into town and I wanted to take them somewhere REALLY good for dinner. We are definitely "foodies" and appreciate "GOOD" food. I am a bit perplexed now though. I made reservations to The Columbia restaurant in Ybor and after reading the reviews on the food, I am not so sure if I should try my luck there. We just dont want a standard chain restaurant and are looking for something different. A co-worker just suggested that I take them to The Colannade and after reading their less than stellar reviews, I dont think I should go there either. I want to give them a nice dining experience in Tampa but its getting tough finding a good place to go to. Now, I am onto reading Bern's reviews and so far they seem to be the most solid, however, we have kids in our party and its pricey. Sigh. Help me my fellow foodies or lovers of good food. Where should we go?

Honestly, the three places you mentioned are all tourist traps. If you've been there once, it's enough - LOL (JK...not).

How about Mise En Place --> http://www.miseonline.com/? It's a bit pricey but the food and service have always been very good when I ate there and the portions were generous. Pane Rustica is good for dinner too, especially if you like Italian --> Pane Rustica Bakery & Cafe - Zagat Rated South Tampa Restaurant & Lounge. There are many many more good restaurants. What type of food do they like?

Agreed here. These are two great recommendations. I recently ate at the Columbia for the first time and would recommend it because it is the oldest restaurant in Florida plus Ybor during the day is worth exploring. I really enjoy Bern's and would suggest that especially the dessert room. I've never been to the Colonade and many people tell me that I'm not missing anything. It's even close to where I live but I have no desire to go. I would also recommend Bella's on S. Howard Ave., Datz on S. MacDill, and Boca on Platt Ave.

Thanks guys. TampaKaren, we like all types of food. But my parents are southerners who dont have a wild palate such as myself. I would only take them to either Steak, Italian, Seafood or Spanish joints.
