I live in SWF. I also have a relitive who just moved 7 months ago to Port Richie. He is saying that he can not get car insurance here that its way too expensive. I found that it was about the same as Kansas or Michigan where I used to live. He is saying everyone is telling him that its impossible to get insurance at a fair price here. I pay for two cars 09 Nissan and 09 Toyota 1300 a year. He is telling me that he can not find anything cheaper than 1600 for 6 months for an 08 Corolla. I paid for a year, is there something I should know?

Well we are paying around $1,200/six months for two newer vehicles. That is 2.5 times the price I was paying in another state, but not far off from many other states.

Your friend must have issues with his driving to pay that much for one vehicle like that....I'm guessing.

He must have some crappy driving record and perhaps lots of claim to have that expensive. I wouldn't be able to pay $1600, if I tried hard . I pay half that for two cars full coverage.

I am paying just under $3300 for three vehicles, with three drivers. Two of them are SUVs and the other is a pickup truck. All have full coverage, and the one SUV is a brand new 2012.

The Corolla is an extremely popular vehicle, and that could be part of the reason for the higher insurance prices. I replaced a 5-year old Honda Accord with the new SUV and my insurance actually dropped. My agent explained that the Accord is always on the "most stolen" list and has a higher risk rating than my new SUV.

Another issue is that many insurance companies use your credit rating as a factor in your rate schedule. You will be punished for having bad credit.

Thats what I am paying, But I did not want to say anything but he is bipolar and its hard to be around him. I feel for him but he is either on the moon or in the mud crying about how life is not worth living. I wish he would get help. Thanks.

There are some online websites that will compare prices. Have him shop around. If he is that hard to be around, tell him that SUCKS and go about your day!

I'm not sure how many DUIs the rest of you have, but I'm a single guy who just insured a new Volvo convertible with 100/300/100 coverage and a $500 deductible for about $400 every six months. It's through State Farm, where I also have my homeowners policy, so they give me a nice break for that.
