We are moving to Pinellas county this summer after school is out. I am looking for a safe school with a good girls basketball program. My children will be 12 and 13 years old. My daughter is a very gifted basketball player but I also want them to get a good education. Thanks for any advice you can give. BTW, we haven't chosen a neighborhood as it will depend on the school as to where we live.

Pinellas County is comprised of Tarpon Springs, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Largo, Seminole, Clearwater.....so first you'll have to choose which one of these little towns you'd want to be in. But when talking about schools, all public schools belong to the county so we can't tell you which is which because each of these towns I mentioned have their own schools.

Go to greatschools.net to get an idea....look for these towns...and then see which one ranks higher etc., or call them and see which has the sports programs you are looking for.

We were considering the Palm Harbor area. I'v heard they have good schools but I can't seem to find information on their basketball program. Where we are now the teachers give the coach a paper with my daughter's grades on it each week to make sure she doesn't get an "F." If she has then he makes her run walls. I like this approach and was wondering how other coaches approach education and sports.

You will have to call them, and ask them directly.

As far as sports go, google "Florida Scout". I use it for wrestling, but I am confident that it has a section on basketball.
