Hey folks, I am relocating to Tampa in near future. I am looking to live in South Tampa / Channelside / Hyde park / Downtown and commute to work daily to Wesley Chapel area. Considering I will be working from 8 am to 5-6 pm how long of a commute time could I expect ? The mapquest / google maps distance calculator estimates about 25 mins , but ofcourse this doesn't estimate traffic related delays. I picked to stay in South Tampa because it is trendier / more urban and close to fun things I am looking to do. Thanks for the help!

Wow. South Tampa is not the best place to be for a commute to Wesley Chapel. Yes, it's a reverse commute, so not as bad as the other way around, but it's not all that direct. Also take into consideration the price of gas. Not looking good, that's for sure.

I would like to live close to Downtown South Tampa because I am single and moving by myself. Besides I would like to live closer to the water / bars / nightlife

That's understandable. Good luck!

It's very direct. Most of the trip would be on I-275.

I think more like 30-35 min, depends on the time and where in Wesley chapel, keep in mind in suburbia you will run into soccer mom traffic once you get off the highway, it shouldn't be too bad.

Fair enuf, but getting to 275, not so direct and SR54 at the other end, yuck. I wouldn't want to do it, but that's just me. The gas will be a killer.

Say, don't we have any other areas for nightlife in Hillsborough County besides South Tampa and Ybor? I'm sort of out of that scene, but are there any clusters further north?

Depends where in Wesley Chapel they will be commuting to. If it's around Bruce B. Downs and the new hospital, it shouldn't be bad at all because you can take SR56.

The tough part, as someone else said, would be getting to I275 and through Malfunction Junction (275/I4).

I live in Wesley Chapel and often drive to south Tampa during the evening commute and its is quite easy, from I-75/SR 56 it takes about 20 minutes down 275.
I would be more cautious when looking for a place to live in S Tampa, choose wisely and get to know the general area around any property you are looking at. It can be rather sketchy in many areas.
