I'm considering relocating to the St. Pete/Clearwater area. Here's my plan for telecommunications: use Google Voice for phone, use internet to stream t.v. and movies.

I know the cable companies want to sell packages, but I'm not interested in a land line or t.v.

Does anyone have Internet only and if so, can you give me an idea of prices?

Thanks, everyone!

Brighthouse offers up to 30mps. Their 10mps service is about $45 or so a month. I dont know if FIOS is in St. Pete, that's via Verizon.

I just went with AT&T via DSL - 6mps and its $25 a month.

Brighthouse Lightning is now 60Mbps. I have it along with phone service for something like $95/month. Removing phone service won't lower the price very much. I need to have a landline phone anyway since I have an elderly family member in the house.

In fact, on their website, 10MB internet only is $52. The same internet service bundled with phone service is also $52.

The only way to know for sure what you can get is to plug your new address into their sites to get prices and availability. We have more choices where we are now in Clearwater than we did in St Pete or Gulfport. I think Brighthouse is the only one in the county that is basically everywhere. Fios and U-Verse is still really spotty as far as availability. If you don't have a new address yet, and you're just wanting a price range for budgeting, I'd say $65-$80 is reasonable, more $ for more Mbps obviously You'll want more than Brighthouse's 10Mbps for everything you'll be using your internet for, especially if you stream in HD. It sounds like you're already aware of the package deal horse & pony show, but taxes and fees on "free" phone service add up to at least $10/month.

Not sure about St.Pete/Clwtr but in Tampa - cheapest FIOS plan for 3Mpbs(download) and 1Mpbs(upload) will set you back by $39.99 a month and you may have to sign a 2 year contract.

I have 100Mbps, which I use to work remotely when I need to but don't know what my company pays for that. It is categorized as business account. So, If you really want faster connection, you may want to go that route.

I use fios, but its about 80 or 90 for internet. I prefer the higher speeds though, so its probably lower if you wanted it to be. We do the 75/35 upload/download.

Thanks, everyone, for the info. Now my rent has to be even *lower* so I can afford the Internet. Not sure how it came to this pass, but the Internet has supplanted televisions and phones for me!
