It's been about a year and family of 5 is contemplating once again to moving to Lutz, Tampa. Remain nervous. Have 3 kids (12, 10 & 5). Main concerns are their schooling, as still not hearing good things about Florida education. But again, feel as, if parents don't reinforce, then doesn't really matter where you go. So with that said... any input on anyone recently relocating to Lutz and actually grateful/happy to be there. I would be moving from the north and don't mind moving to the warmer climate (although I know the summers are brutal). Just want to know how the area is like, the people, the safety and well, any opinions on whether this would be a smart move. Thanks!

On average Florida schools are just fine. Specially, if you are involved with your kids education supplementing what they learn at school, I don't see a problem. My kid is in elementary and many time I went to his class and saw his teacher and I am really happy with her and the level of education that he is getting from public school. Every year I go to his class to teach during the great American teach in day and see how the other kids are in the class too. I think it is up to you to decide how much education your kids get. Some people just want to send their kids to school and magically see them excel by just what the teacher is doing in the class room. If you are one of those, well you will be disappointed.

I wonder how many of those who say that Florida school is bad actually go over the material that their kids went over in the class every day. That's what I do. I look everyday at what he learns in the class and if he made a mistake, I would explain him the concept and give him several similar exercise and we close the day. He is doing just fine.

I would avoid the Bearss/Livingston area. Not a great part of town. There are some places in Lutz zoned for really good schools, just gotta check before you rent. Land O Lakes is just a little further north and it's a better area for the most part.

It depends where at in lutz. anything east of dale mabry/41 is pretty good. The rest is a little spotty. I live in lutz right at lutz lake fern/dale mabry and love it. Our neighborhood is awesome, tons of kids for our kids to play with. Quiet at night and so far seems quite safe. The schools over here are some of the top rated in the county (mkintric or whatever, stienbrenner).

I am all over Lutz throughout the week. There really are some GREAT parts of it. It extends down to Northern Tampa and changes in look and feel the closer you get to the 'City'. The Northern part boarders Land O Lakes and the North Eastern Part boarders Wesley Chapel. You don't know you change cities at all, they just run together.

If you are looking at Lutz take a look at what County you will be in. Part of Lutz is in Hillsborough County and part is Pasco County. That would change which school district you would go to. Taxes change quite a bit in a very, very short distance.

I agree with you if you mean WEST of Dale Mabry/41. And the public schools, McKitrick Elementary, Martinez Middle, and Steinbrenner High are just excellent (but now overcrowded due to popular demand).

Thank you for your posts! Truly appreciated! I have to add that we are of Asian descent and am hearing that there are still those with bias towards us because we are not 'white' and maybe moreso because we are comig from the 'north'. Do you think Lutz is an accepting community and also would my children's transition into their new schools be accepted? Again... Thanks!

I ay look into Northdale. It's just south of Lutz. Great neighborhood, good schools, great community, absolute minimal HOA and low CCD taxes.

Said this many, many times. Tampa is a Melting Pot of people. You have people from all over the World here and I don't think that there is a racial bias from ethnicity over another. Of course, you will have a small fraction of racists everywhere, you can't get away from that. You will be fine!
