Last place - lots of games left, though

I'm extremely hopeful to be in attendance from July 1-4 as the Rays come to Houston!

Rays owner Stuart Sternberg talks future of franchise, possible move - MLB News | FOX Sports on MSN

Here is the flabbergasting reality of the Tampa Bay Rays: They are on pace to finish with a winning record for a sixth straight season but have the lowest average attendance in the American League (17,909).

AROUND THE HORN

The location and aesthetics of Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg have prevented the franchise from reaching its full financial and competitive potential. But there’s no concrete plan for the Rays to play elsewhere, in large part because St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster has resisted calls to let the team out of its stadium lease.

That is the dilemma facing principal owner Stuart Sternberg, who granted FOXSports.com an exclusive, wide-ranging interview at this week’s MLB Diversity Business Summit in Houston.

It was at least nice to see Sternburg say it would not be a realistic idea for the Rays to leave the Tampa Bay area.

It also seems like he is waiting a change in the mayor's seat so he can wheel and deal a bit.

I'd like to see a buyout done...new stadium break ground downtown Tampa in 2015 and start a year later!

I hate to play the role of the pessimist, but what did you expect him to say? He's trying to get the City of St. Pete to build him a new stadium or let him get out of his lease. To say that the Rays are gone, or threatening to leave wouldn't exactly help him to get his way.

I read the entire article and the feeling that I got from the article is that he's biding his time until it's feasible for Major League Baseball to step in and allow him to move the Rays to Montreal.

After the Marlins Stadium fiasco, and the Florida Legislature refusing to discuss state/city funds for renovations to the Dolphins stadium, which makes billions of dollars off of Super Bowls and National Championship Games, I find it extremely hard to believe that any team in Florida will be able to get tax dollars for a new stadium. That doesn't even get into the issues that the Rays have with the City of St. Pete and their political leaders.

I went to tonight's game. Back to Back to Back HRs, including Myers' first HR at the Trop. Might have been the smallest crowd at the Trop that I've seen in my 5th season of going to games.

This Myers kid looks like the real deal. They should lock him in now long term like they did Longoria.
