My F-I-L said the water made it up to his garage door and he is no where near a flood zone. He had never seen anything like it.

It's a good idea to carry flood insurance no matter in a flood zone or not.

I never mentioned you. Don't know why you assumed that.

Nope. I just reread all the posts in this thread and there is no mention of your name on my part. So staying on topic here, the area is positioned well to be at a lower threat level for a hurricane......although all it takes is one. Let's just hope when that one does happen again, it is not a major one.

Another thing to consider is having impact rated windows installed in your home. NOT "hurricane" windows, but impact rated windows. There is a scale used for impact window for strength. Windows labeled as hurricane and not impact are not necessarily impact resistant. It can just be a marketing gimmick.

Can you knock it off? You're picking a non-existent fight for no apparent reason. Go read a book if you're bored.

Thanks to everyone else for your contributions. It really helps to hear your assessment of the situation.

NOAA predicts another busy hurricane season

Federal forecasters are predicting yet another busy hurricane season.

Thursday's outlook calls for 13 to 20 named storms, 7 to 11 that strengthen into hurricanes and 3 to 6 that become major hurricanes.

The prediction by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is more than what's considered an average Atlantic season.

Last year was the third-busiest on record with 19 named storms. Ten became hurricanes and were two major storms, with winds over 111 mph.

That included Sandy, which caused $50 billion in damage even though it lost hurricane status when it made landfall in New Jersey.

The last time a major hurricane made landfall in the United States was Wilma in 2005. The seven year U.S. landfall drought is the longest on record.

The six-month season starts June 1.

Oh, make sure you get a weather radio too. On the good ones, you can program all kinds of alerts. Given that TS and Hurricanes can have a mind of their own, it's good to have instant alerts.

Thats always an exciting time of year down there. The first year we were there was fun. I think we put the plywood over the windows 4 or 5 times.
