So I went to McDonald's on my way in to work to get a sweet tea. I walked into the store with my keys and wallet. I got my sweet tea and I left. This was about 3 PM and the store was FULL of customers (this is the McDonald's on Kennedy Blvd. near West Shore). I drove into work. About 6 PM I go to look for my wallet in my purse and it's not there. So I race to my car to see whether I had left it there. Nope, I had left it at McDonald's.
I immediately call the McDonald's and a very sweet man answers the phone. "Oh yes ma'am, your wallet is here. One of my employees got it and we put it in the safe. Don't worry, just come and get it whenever you like."

Mind you:
My wallet is a very expensive 300-dollar popular-brand wallet that was full of credit cards and cash. The employees at this store are all very young. The drinks station was overflowing with random customers.

So I drive over to the McDonald's and sure enough, the wallet is there, safe and sound, as if no one had touched it.

I don't want to speak in generalizations, but I shall anyway: there is no way I would have gotten my wallet back had this happened in Miami, DC, LA, NYC, Chicago or any of the other cities I've lived.

Tampa Bay people are generally sweet, kind and honest. I am lucky to live here.

Nice to hear that .

With all your cash intact in the wallet, I hope you tip the worker who found it. It is good to reward this kind of behavior.

I'd contact the local TV station - good story - person at McD needs to be recognized.

It's good to be courteous, but in reality you shouldn't have to...but then again this is 2013, not 1943.

Make sure that McD's corporate knows about this. When we hear so much negative about our young people, we really need to recognize them when they do the right thing. And yes, I would give a reward because it is the right thing--not expected, but warranted.

BucFan has a good point, you should contact the media. BTW - McDonald's here is ran by The Casper Company. I have lived in a few states and have to say that by far, The Casper Company is the best at hiring good folks and running their restaurants compared to most Franchisees.

Cool story. I have noticed many places like McDonalds are very well-run down here compared to what I was used to experiencing up north.

Great story with happy ending however i would not assume this level of honesty can only happen in Tampa bay.To think this level of integrity could never happen in Miami, DC, LA, NYC, Chicago is a very large and erroneous generalization.
