I've already got the uhaul reserved for Wednesday, so this move is definitely happening.

Oh yeah, I've come to realize that success in business has A LOT to do with contacts. I'm definitely ready to meet people to make those business connections.
I'm moving next week as well, Thursday lol. Over the past year I have been going at the minimal life style, donating a lot of things I no longer use. It has been a really great feeling actually, donating things and simplifying my personal life. I just pack my truck up and roll. Obviously this will all change once I find a keeper, girls and their material items.

Well I wish you the best of luck on the move and hopefully you can assimilate into a decent job. Have fun and get some sun.

I love it here and actually we may have to relocate because of my husband's business and I am heart broken. With that said, there are more than 250,000 people a year who attempt to relocate to Florida. We have sink holes because our water table has been disrupted due to the heavy burden of population and filling in wetlands. We have tons of carrying capacity issues. Simply put, it is difficult for the environment to handle the burdens and infrastructure cannot keep up. Hurricane insurance, heavy influx of population who do not have jobs make Florida a really difficult place for people to move down and stay. Florida is a very very transient area. Between the military bases and the foreclosures and high unemployment rates, more and more people are moving out. Many move out but yet 250,000 minimally move in yearly and most cannot make it. I am not trying to be discouraging. I am trying to tell you frankly so you can make a well reasoned decision. The costs of living are comparable in some respects but insurances are high. Wages are much lower here if you can find a job. Florida has jobs for professionals and skilled services and those with hospitality and tourism experience and out of state seekers are very much considered, but I do not suggest gaming the system by using someone's address because the mandatory background screening will catch any discrepancies. Florida has a need for health care providers: Nurses, Physicians, Radiology Technologists. There are no jobs for unskilled labor unless you know someone. Again, Florida has a very over burdened system at this point, We still have about the highest foreclosure rate in the nation and that is because there are tons and tons and tons of people out of work. The unemployment insurance system is nearly bankrupt. The State is in the red and you need a car to get around. Public transportation is not good. I was lucky. I was in college when I moved here and I was in health care. My son was born here and he was educated here. It is hard enough for the residents but it is really difficult for people coming out of state who have are not white collar or in professions where there is a need and there are not many of those. You need to rethink this but if you come down without a job and you want to give it 5 months..Good Luck. You may land a temporary job that pays poorly but those jobs are generally going to residents. Good luck and I did not mean to be negative but I cannot tell you how many people I have met who move here and then leave within a year poorer than when they arrive. Also, who wants to move here with all the crazy hurricanes and sink holes happening? You have no idea how much our weather and water situation has changed in ten years.
Did you take your anti-depressant medicine today? I get what you are saying, but you are focusing on the negatives. I don't think you've done your research lately and you're probably still feeling the affects of the bubble bursting a few years ago. Unemployment has been on a steady decline, and home prices are on the rise... And thanks for all the negative talk about weather and sinkholes, but I live in Oklahoma City. Yeah, the same Oklahoma city that is miles from where the Moore tornado just happened. I live less than 15 miles from that.

Take it from me, I use to work in the sinkhole business, sinkholes in St. Petersburg are rather rare...places with high sinkhole activity are Spring Hill and Plant City...at least places near you.

Hurricanes are a risk for anyone that lives on the coast, all the way from Maine to FL, so this shouldn't stop anyone from moving to the East Coast you just have to learn how to take precautions, just like the same thing goes for Tornadoes in OKC.

I am doing the same thing - donating a ton, had a yard sale, trying to minimize and the word you used is perfect - simplify my life. And I'm a female so imagine how hard it must be!

Nice, doesn't it feel good?

I can't believe how much useless crap I had, and some of it not useless but just haven't used it. I kept saying to myself "well, I'll keep that just in case...just in case..." but once I got past that it was easy. My general rule is, if I haven't used it in the past 12 months, see ya. Salvation Army loves me.

If the world came to a stop tomorrow, all I would need is my guitar and a tent, and a woman...then I'd be a happy camper. It's crazy how much life opens up after you break yourself away from material possession.

Yep, Salvation Army, Big Brother/Big Sister, local charities that take books and don't forget the animal shelters. One place hugged me for bringing in blankets, pillows, etc. lol

I have a futon with a decent mattress believe it or not. I have it if I have a friend stay over but I'm ditching my bed and just bringing that. Saves space for the move and eventually I'll get something I like. It'll also serve as my couch 'til I figure out where I'm renting and what works for furniture. How's that for multi tasking?

And yeah, it does feel good!

Wow, that's surprisingly similar to myself. I picked up a nice shikibed (traditional Japanese bed), it's basically an all cotton futon mattress and just use that. Roll it up and away I go. I was debating on picking up a futon frame and another shikibed for guests at my new place, guess I'll have to mull it over. Where are you headed off to?

Haha. I understand, man. Have you ever been to OKC? The most recent tornado (which happened about a month ago) was about 2-3 miles south of me. It killed 22 people. There are these crazy sirens that go off when they happen, and all you can do is climb in your bathtub or shelter when they happen. There is less than 30 minutes of warning when they touch down, and they are normally deadly if you don't take precautions. I'm okay with having a day or two of warning for a hurricane, and if I fall into a sink hole I will chalk that up as having the best worst luck ever. And to be quite honest, I'm not going to live in fear of weather. Will I be an idiot and stay put when I am warned of imminent danger? Heck no! But I'm not going to let the weather dictate my life. Simply put.
