Hi everyone,
Just recently moved to Ruskin and our family is ready to hit the beach! But which one? We tried E.G. Simmons and found it a little lacking. The sand was too full of rocks and shells to play in it. What other beaches around this area are good for swimming and playing in the sand?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

You need to go to a gulf coast beach, not a silly bay beach.

Take your pick on the gulf coast.

From Ruskin you would want to go to the Sarasota Area beaches. Ana Maria island is nice and not crowded. If you dont mind the crowds then Siesta Key is as good as it gets. You can also hit Fort de Soto but you would have to go over the skyway.

From Ruskin, any of the Bradenton Beaches on Anna Maria will be your best bet and easiest drive. Sand is soft and white, and these beaches actually have some shade, which Siesta does not (and is way too far for you). Try Coquina Beach!

Did you visit Little Harbor - there's a section that you're free to layout without needing to be a resort guest. Its only 5-10 mins from Ruskin. I'll go to the bar and pick up a coffee or beer and be "legit" as a guest. Not sure what their rules are, but was out there last week and noticed they have a new rope fence to separate their beach from the rest of the beach - check it out either way.

Otherwise, my fav is Holmes Beach down in Bradenton - takes about 40 mins from Ruskin. Lots of parking if you get there before 9 a.m. otherwise, you're competing with others. Coquina Beach also has pretty decent parking, imo.

Toll way fee on Skyway and car fee at De Soto - but there seems to be plenty of parking available, last time I was out there.

Wow! thanks everyone! And my kids thank you too! We will be out to one of those beaches (thinking Bradenton area) this week. Although we definitely have to try Little Harbor since it is so close! Here comes the sun tan! After Germany, we all need it!
