I am a single female who has visited St. Pete a lot, but have spent little time in Tampa and none in South Tampa. Are there are nice gated communities, relatively new, with detached concrete block homes? I would like to be within 10 miles of downtown Tampa so that I am near the airport, offices and medical centers, hospitals, restaurants, etc.

The only community I can think of close by is Riverview. My price range is probably around 275-350K. Thanks for any feedback.

Would recommend the newer develops in Pasco county all along state road 54, can use the veterans expressway to come into Tampa. Probably more like 20 miles, if on the western side of Pasco. If on the East (New Tampa, Wesley Chapel) would more than likely use I275 or Bruce B Downs Blvd.

You will probably need to compromise on some of your requirements. There are some gated communities in South Tampa off Westshore, but they are waterfront and will be way over your budget. You should consider a townhouse in Harbour Island if you want to be in a gated community close to downtown.

Thanks - Westchase sounds good -- is Harbour Island nice? I've never been there.

I think Harbor Island has a lot of condos and townhouse type homes. Davis Islands has the homes. Both are in very good locations - convenient to downtown. I could easily live in either areas -

Yes, Harbour Island is nice. It is connected to downtown by a small bridge.
