I found at a younger age (13 years ago) that I could live as a single male, with a car (owned, no payments) on $13/hour.

I would consider $13/hr or higher as okay pay.

I couldn't live on $8/hr. in 2000, and I don't see how anyone can live on it today.

I guess good pay depends on the job. FL has sucky wages for the most part.

Obviously depends on situation. I can only speak for two adults since I don't have any kids. I would not be happy with anything under $50k. Sure we could survive on it, but not happy.

That's just my opinion.

My husband pays $11,000 a year for our health insurance (family of 4) his place of employment kicks in $4000...I think this is an outrageous amount of money...if we had that extra $11,000 a year it would enable us to save more...I don't see how anyone making minimum wage can live on that...I think a family of four would need at least 60K to live in Pinellas County!!!

60k? I would tend to agree with that, but that is with having to pay rent or a mortgage. Retirees without mortgages could probably do it in less. JMO of course.

$60K a year is a reasonable salary these days, in FL at least.

For one person? I don't make anywhere even remotely close to that. Luckily my wife makes much more than that, so she balances me off. I married up in more ways than one.

Here are some samples of what I know so far:

My occupation (materials management) appears to pay close to the same as NC or less by up to 20%, depending on employer and location. It really really varies around here.....mainly because of how many small companies there are.

Facilities management jobs here tend to be extremely low paying compared to NC.

Financial jobs tend to make much more here than NC. My son got a 25% increase in pay and had more offers and interest all with excellent pay.

Clinical research is equal here to NC.

These are real life examples, not JMO.

Bonus though....no state income tax.

$11,000 for your contribution to insurance is outstandingly high. I pay 240 a month for my family of 5... and it is good coverage with no deductibles.

These benefits kick in 8/1... cannot wait since I have been without med insurance for over a year.

I think Prius is right on the industries. I understand the IT industry may pay less here than many other places.. but I am making goof money in IT and am satisfied... especially considering the benefits are affordable and I like where I work.
