So loving being in this beautiful city! We got in yesterday, enjoyed downtown Dunedin, went to Honeymoon Island for a bit. We will be going to Caladesi in a couple days-
But today, it's gorgeous out, my boys are still trying to wake up ha! If you had to choose between Sand Key and Ft. De Soto for some beach time, which would you choose? We dont' mind driving a bit.

We found that Honeymoon was quite rocky and really tough to get in the water Which of the two has a better layout, good sand and little to no rocks would be great!

It seems like Ft. De Soto may have some more shaded areas also we could get to if we needed relief from the heat ? We do have an umbrella-

Both are on my 'itinerary' but flexible as of days-so for the regulars-which of those do you prefer and vote...Sand Key or Ft. De soto? We will be heading out to beach in about an hour or two tops.

Thanks!!!

OH- and my man is L O V I N G it here!!!! He says it's his type of place for sure My Boys went from no, I dont' want to live here -end of the day they were heck yes! We got to kayak w/dolphins, I'm sure that helped lol

Sand Key is just a beach. Ft. De Soto has more of a "park" feel.

Jsun, is the beach area nice though there? As in soft sand, little rocks, room to spread out, etc?

Never actually went to the beach there... saw it from the water and the parking lot. I'm more of a beach bar person, not beach relaxing person.

Both are great and non-rocky, in my opinion. Ft. DeSoto does have a park and a cool fort to explore, so it has more to do.

Just FYI on Honeymoon Island, the north end is really, really rocky. If you go again, stay closer to the south part of the beach to avoid the rocks.

I love them both but depends on traffic and distance, or just go to both!

Get out and explore a bit....on your way stop by sand key beautiful beach... stay for an hour or two then head over to sunset beach in treasure island....another beautiful beach where you can get a sangwich and a beer. Then if your up to it head on down to Fort Desoto for the sunset, the fort, and the beautiful beach.
