Just a heads up to do your due diligence if you're planning on buying a new home. There are some great end of year sales, but be aware of the builder's financial situation. Tousa (aka Engle), Standard Pacific, and Beazer are mentioned in the following article from the St Pete Times:

Business: Builders brace for shakeout

Kb homes fired the district manager for Tampa who did a bad job for this area and unfortunatelly a lot of great KB home workers were fired too. Windward just fired 35 people and in the new development in Wesley Chapel, they can't get a house sold. Better buy a good resale than right now with a builder that is in finacial trouble.

So better read and have things in writing, because once you close on the property, the builder is not answering any more and putting your house on the market can cost you a lot of money.

Due to legal concerns please post links to consumer complaints or leave the builder names out of the post.

If the newspaper may print the names why don't we? These are not gossip but facts as the builders have told the home owners. Isn't there also a first amendment?

Smile Mercedes' financial condition + a due diligence resource

Homebuilder-Bankruptcy.com is a good site for finding out about distressed or bankrupt home builders. I was just reading about the liquidity situation of Mercedes Homes there.

Homebuilder-Bankruptcy.com » Mercedes Homes - Liquidity through Use of Lenders’ Cash Collateral (http://www.homebuilder-bankruptcy.com/2009/03/mercedes-homes-liquidity-through-use-of-lenders-cash-collateral - broken link)
