Pretty strong statement. I have no evidence either way, you are however the first person to paint such a doom and gloom scenario if I were to choose gas hvac over electric. Your points are enough for me to be concerned and I will investigate this further but how is it everyone seems to opinion that the end result, the monthly bill, will be cheaper with a gas hvac cooling my house?

So this website gives the average kilowatt hours used in homes per state. How much electricity does an American home use? - FAQ - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)

Florida is 1161 kwh per month. 1161 kwh = 39.61 therms.

If you are paying $3/therm that would mean if a Florida home was all gas it would be about $118.83 per month, for electric it would be 133 per month (@ 11.51 cents per kwh).

That graph also shows Florida's natural gas prices aren't that much higher than Pennsylvania's.

By the way....this is merely a discussion about gas vs electric pricing.......there's really no need to get angry or abusive with people who participate in it. You don't happen to work for an electric utility company do you? I just don't get where the anger is coming from?

Yea, I dont know why it got so confrontational but I have to thank you for making me aware that gas can be expensive in Florida.

After raising some concern with the builder I was informed that everything in the house is gas: stove, pool/spa, dryer, water heater, heater but the a/c and oven are electric. This is on purpose to keep with very high efficiency standards except for the oven which my wife prefers electric oven over gas.

Thanks again for the conversation!

Shame she likes electric over gas for cooking. We prefer gas.

There's no wait for elements to get hot (which costs you money) and when you reduce the flame, it's instantaneous. Watching all the cooking shows, they all use gas.

Yes, the stovetop will be gas but the oven will be electric, she prefers that, something about moisture when roasting or baking, idk, I just eat what is produced
