So here's the thing. There ARE seasonal changes in Florida, they are just much more subtle than what you call "real" fall. That's kind of insulting, btw. Our fall is just as real as any other, and if you open your eyes to those subtle seasonal changes and get in tune with them, you start to really appreciate Florida. Yes, I understand, you have all this emotional baggage tied to the word fall, all these expectations created by growing up in a temperate climate. Florida is a sub-tropical climate. The rules really are different here, and all the complaining in the world will not change it. Over the years, observing many transplants, I have seen that fall is when they tend to get homesick and cranky - usually not the first fall, but the 2nd or 3rd, after the thrill of the move has worn off a little. I really recommend that transplants take vacations up north in the fall to get their fix of the sights and sounds and the feel of the temperate fall that they miss. A lot of people choose to go for Thanksgiving but I think late October is probably better for most places? You work out the details. When you get back you can enjoy beautiful Florida winter. But after awhile, you might start to notice that Florida fall is also worth being enjoyed. Yes, it is not cool yet, but it doesn't feel quite so hellaciously hot - temperature and dewpoint have shifted a bit. We're in the home stretch now. Some migratory birds have arrived. Soon their human counterparts will show up. Pumpkin pie will still taste good even if you are wearing shorts.
No, it won't.

Christmas just isn't the same either.

I am fond of Christmas lights in the palm trees and surfing Santas.

YES I do!! Hence the reason i want to move down there. I'm a shorts and sandals kind of guy, and i don't mind being able to wear those all year round, even at Christmas
If you really like lows in the 30's in September and constant gloominess all winter long, then you can have that. I guess one man's hell truly is another's heaven...

I would rather deal with our summer than a winter up north.

Fact is there isn't a season in Florida that I don't enjoy.
Even when it's at its hottest and most humid I'm outside all day enjoying the natural beauty and sub-tropical weather.
I don't have my A/C on until the evening when I finally come inside, enjoy a nice glass of wine and then really enjoy the cool.
This obsession with ice-cold living temperatures is wierd - I visit the Caribbean a lot and people don't spend their lives cocooned in an unnatural man-made environment just to survive.
Sure, they might have A/C in a restaurant or bar when they're socialising but other than that not.
Living in these temperatures you've gotta embrace the climate not try to defeat it because you never will.
Like the poster says, I'm a shorts and sandals sort of person.
All day,every day.
It sure cuts down on laundry bills.

We are kindred spirits. I'm outside everyday enjoying the beauty of the area and the warm temperatures. We don't even think about turning on our ac until it's over 80 degrees inside the house. We like the fresh air, breezes, and sub-tropical temperatures. Being able to be outside walking, gardening, biking, playing sports, etc. is a joy. If I can wear shorts and flipflops, without getting cold, I'm a happy girl.
