It's closed between Calusa Trace & Reflections where Grace Church is. It smells really bad too!

They were installing new light poles & hit the gas line.

No problem!

It's open now, but the guys said they were trying to stabilize it for the night; so they may close it off again tomorrow.

I think it was an accident...or...like you said, the gas people didn't tell them that there were gas lines there...and the electric people didn't ask...but they are both TECO...so...let's put "accident" in quotes...cause what you said makes more sense!

Teco gas and Teco electric are not the same company. And utilities are the worse companies to deal with. Then we tried to coordinate the upcoming project and asked all utility companies within our project limits to mark up our plans to show their locations, 9 out of 10 companies got back and said "we don't know the exact location, we only know on which side our facilities are". And when SUE (survey) was completed it came up as there were way more lines running than their owners were aware of... No kidding. I am surprised accidents like that not happening more often.

I must say: I feel very "safe" knowing the utilities don't know where their lines are! Look forward to blow up at some point! Thanks. Maybe we should stop paying them until they find the lines considering the risk they are exposing us to, and the fact that we're paying for that risk!!!!! See what they think of it! Next month, I'll forget where my wallet is when time comes to pay them for their "service"!

Lets clear it up, the company knows exactly where their lines are, the rep you talked to didnt know how to access that information. Also, there are companies (every hear of 811) that are out to mark all utilities. Gas, power, communications and water. The issue comes when one company DOESN'T call 811 or if the contractor marks improperly (which doesnt happen often). My money goes on the fact that its the power company (or their contractor is the more likely case)who is at fault.
