So I just heard from one of my friends in Spring Hill that a horrible tragedy took place today - a man apparently shot his two little children and himself. When I did a search on this, I turned up THREE shootings in Spring Hill in the past month! What in the world is going on up there!?! Seriously … that sort of thing NEVER happened up there 10 years ago. Very sad to see this kind of "big city" crime coming to rural communities such as Spring Hill.

Nope, none of that ever happens in Pinellas County.

This isn't a Spring Hill vs. Pinellas County thing. You can't even compare the two areas because Pinellas has a much, much larger population. I'm just surprised that the violence in Spring Hill has escalated to what it is now, especially given the fact that the population there isn't very high. When we first move there in 2001, it was a sweet little community with very little crime.

It's not like that any more.

What a shame. This stuff seems to be happening so much more all around the country.

You must realize that Spring Hill isn't so rural anymore.

It is amazing that there have been so many of family members murdering other family members and a lot of them are very recent. Such as:

In Brooklyn NY - A man slaughtered his cousin’s wife and four children with a meat cleaver

In Farmington Hill Michigan - A man who came home from Las Vegas distraught over gambling debts killed his pregnant wife and three children, then shot himself to death.

In Shaler Township PA - James Edwards shot and killed his daugther and the family dog. He also shot and wounded his 21-year-old son and his wife.

In Ashville PA - Daughter kills mother and brother, father kills daughter.

Ohio- father that killed his daugther and his wife, wounded another daugther.

Pittsburgh PA - James Edwards opened fire in his home Thursday, shooting his entire family then killed himself.

El Monte CA - A father reportedly killed his daughter and her friend before turning the gun on himself.

Chicago IL - A 27-year-old man shot and killed his estranged wife and their 5-year-old daughter.

The list goes on and on. Something is seriously wrong with mankind.

The "crimes" you report are people who were either related to each other of knew each other.

Also, people have been getting shot and killed here for decades and I can assure you it happened here 10 years ago as well.

Include the rest of the county and the number of people killed is pretty large. Note however that in most of the cases the victim was related to or knew the killer. These aren't random crimes or criminal acts that caused the death of a victim.

"Big City" crimes are more in the line of murders of people who were killed during the commission of a crime such as robbery, burglary, rape, etc.

So I wouldn't be asking what is going on in Spring Hill, but what on earth is happening to our entire society?

Poor Spring Hill. Whenever I hear something about it, specially in this board, is stuff like this or a sinkhole or just plain scary stuff.

I know it. It seems there aren't any safe places any more … not even in the more rural areas.

Yes, I wonder why Spring Hill would be exempt from the same things that happen all over the country and even around the world, including sink holes. Spring Hill is not in some protective bubble.

Nope, no place is safe especially when a member of your own family wants to kill you and everyone else in the family.

It's especially sad to me because Spring Hill was NOT like that years ago. Something changed … I don't know whether it's just that the population has grown or if there is some other reason. I just know that Spring Hill seldom, if ever, made the news due to some weird or violent crime. That is no longer the case now. We have friends who are police officers there and they say it has gotten much worse in the last 3 years.
