I have upcoming surgery at the Moffitt Cancer Center. Not cancer, but higher risk type surgery to end with multiple spinal fusions. Looking to get feedback from anyone familiar with the facility. Is it highly regarded? Have you or you family members or friends received treatment there? How was it? Good results? How is the staff?

Thx

Sorry to hear about your fusions. Hope it goes well. I tend to trust university-associated hospitals and this one enjoys both affiliation with USF and UF. I was damaged badly in a construction accident many years ago and after numerous doctors wound up with the U of M's head of neurology at Jackson. He actually kept me away from fusion and guided me through alternatives. I've regained 90plus percent of function from that with only remnant trouble every so often.

I don't know of Moffitt in particular but here's the US News report on that

According to USNews, Moffitt is one of the best in the country

Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL Rankings - US News Best Hospitals
This hospital was among 147 facilities—roughly 3 percent of the 4,806 analyzed for the latest Best Hospitals rankings—to be ranked in even one of the 16 specialties.

It rated 19th best in cancer and a general best in some others. It does not seemed to be ranked in neurosurgery and I don't see anything there on the ortho stuff but certainly it seems a good facility.

PS I notice the review mentions that the staff tends to be liberal. You might want to avoid discussing global warming with your night nurse.

Excellent to know. Thx. This is a very delicate surgery, so good to know someone from the inside thinks it is great.

Used to work there a while back, they have some really incredible surgeons, and their research faculty are also top notch, as evidenced as their incredible knack at getting grant funding. As with any surgeon, the bedside manner can leave a bit to be desired but I'd have no concerns over their abilities.

I am not familiar with it but just want to wish you best of luck and quick recovery. I also warn you not to engage in your sea level rise argument there too...

You know how some people send patients flowers? MeInDen and I chipped in and bought the nursing staff flowers. They're ready for you; we warned them.

I'm sure OP made sure that the surgeons were trained in some New England school of medicine before committing to the surgery.
