Hi.....I'm a 58 yrs young woman looking for a safe and affordable- pet-friendly place to live. I'm retired ...Moved from NYC to Melbourne, Fl. in a hurry where there's nothing...... It's boring here.........I need people......(of all races, etc.).....just nice people.........I need stores, shopping, restaurants, parks, the beach, and church, etc...........I'm looking to re-locate to Tampa......... (preferably downtown, although I know I cannot afford it) ........ St Pete......... or Clearwater. ............. I've been searching online and checking reviews and some of the reviews are horrific and I cannot afford to move again, so I have to make the right choice this time....

Because I'm retired, my budget is low...$600 max...$600+ only if something is included like Cable or Electric or Gas.......and it's a plus if there's a washer/dryer already in the unit...........I've looked at 55+ communities (will be 59 soon.............would like to spend my B-Day in my new home).............Low Income Housing is a 7 year waiting list....so that's out.........I prefer a high-rise...if not...low rise is fine......I'm not totally opposed to living in someone's house, but it would have to be the ideal situation...........My lease is up on May 3l, 2014 and I have to find some place ASAP!..............IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE THAT CAN HELP ME PLEASE....THANK YOU ALL!

Sun City Center has rentals for various budgets. Many include elect/cable/h20 and HOA (which can be expensive but offer tons in forms of social groups, pools, fitness centers, tennis courts). Its a good way to meet people - although be warned, there are some real oldtimers in Sun City Center (Kings Point). Here's are examples.

I am a big planner so I'm trying to narrow my search down to a few cities, research them, and visit them this summer.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how the hospitals are in Tampa? How is the social work job market for someone qualified? I will have approximately nine years of experience in the field of social work, along with an MSW.

I had some questions about Tampa and relocation:

1. Really, how hot is it?
2. What are the pros and cons to living in Tampa?
3. I've heard some rumblings that ppl in Florida aren't that nice, is this true?
4. Politically is it liberal, or, if you are liberal is this a problem?
5. How bad are bugs?!
6. Are the road systems confusing and is there a lot of traffic?

Thanks so much for your help!
I don't know anything about VA hospitals but I think I can answer a few of your questions.

I moved down here from Cleveland 2.5 years ago, so you and I are going to probably be similar in many ways.

I really love Tampa. The weather is just a big improvement, there is no getting around that. How hot is it? I gotta tell you the sun can be intense and you do need to wear your sunblock. The sun will definitely be more intense than what you are used to. But how hot does it feel? I got to tell you, sometimes I don't know what everyone down here is complaining about when it is hot. In Cleveland, when it is 88 degrees, its unbearable because of the haze and stagnant air without a breeze. But down here, its 93 everyday in the summer, with a little breeze, no haze or stale air, and crystal clear blue sky. I personally think 88 in Cleveland feels hotter than 93 down here. Humidity? It's most humid in the middle of the night, that's when all the dew forms on metal surfaces such as cars. I guess this is really a subjective thing. It will be 93 everyday down here in the summer.

People in Florida generally might not be that nice as to what you are used to. I don't know much about the people in PIT, but in Cleveland, it's still kind of midwestern. People down here are always in a hurry, there is a certain rudeness down here sometimes, especially with drivers. There is lots of foreigners (lots of cultures here, not like PIT or CLE) and many of them are different than what we are accustomed to up north. Sometimes it seems rude but it might just be cultural.

Politically its probably similar to PIT and CLE. In the big cities, there might be lots of liberals, but outside the big cities its going to be a red state.

The bugs aren't too bad which was a real surprise to me. In Ohio, our house had a lot of woods around and there was always mosquitos. I don't get bit up down here as much but there are some bugs but I don't think as bad. Mostly I think it's those noseeums (spelling?). Almost every house down here has a screened lanai which is nice.

Traffic can be intense. It's worse than Cleveland. Tampa has the worst drivers in the country and insurance rates to prove it.

Hope that helps.
