I'm looking to get some input on what people think about the quality of life in Tampa vs. Baltimore. There are the obvious perks about Tampa (beaches, weather, lower cost of living) and Baltimore (more walkable, better public transportation, adjacency to other cities, high pay), but there are also other things I'm thinking about. Please provide a preference for one of the two metro areas based on the following:

-Racial tension (in many places this cuts along class divides but in some areas there is an overt "us" and "them" attitude when it comes to racial issues.

-Classicism (rich and poor people are everywhere, but in some places they're more commonly choose to visit the same public places and interact with one another.)

-"Laid back" attitudes (Live to work or work to live)

-Progressive attitudes (by this I mostly mean support and acceptance or progressive social issues, ie. gay rights, environmental protection, combating cyclical poverty)

-Pride in where you live (you're proud to say you live in the area and you actively work to help make it a better community)

-Friendliness (neighbors and strangers say hello, practice good manners with one another, and work towards creating a generally positive vibe)

I'm thinking about a move. I live in Baltimore but I have friends down there. I like my job here and from what I've seen in job openings I'd make about 15-20% less working the same job down there... so I'm a little torn.

Threads like this are perhaps better in the City vs City thread.

You'll work for 15%-20% less but probably work 15%-20% less, spend less time commuting and spend 20%-25% less in terms of cost of living. It boils down to what kind of lifestyle you prefer.

Costs of living significantly lower in Tampa area. More moderate temps, more laid back, wide range of cultural and entertainment, as well as the Gulf.

Actually you mean St Petersburg or Clearwater, since Tampa isn't on the coast.

Ben T. Davis Beach is part of Tampa parks - but I wouldn't list that as a favorite area beach by any measure.
