We are trying to find a condo or townhome that are willing to allow 2 dogs (3.5 &4.6 pounds) and allow us. You see we are retiring but we are only 45. Most of them won't take us due to our age or us with 2 pets. We are not wanting ocean front or anything like that but sheesh. Talk about the needle in the haystack. I never thought the entire time we have been saving and planning that we would not be welcome for our age or love of our dogs. So if anyone else reading this is on the same path, patience is a must. There is somewhere for us and I will let you know as soon as we find it.

Rather than a townhome, look at the manufactured home developments. Most will accept two pups that size. They have golf courses, pools, etc depending on the development.

Forgive me but I was under the impression those were 55+ as well. Do you know of any that are not? And where they are located? We have been down twice so far and it's not cost effective to come down blind. So if you have the names or general locations I would love to look them over. Thank you for the suggestion.

Can you post your criteria?

Size, price, rent vs buy, location, distance from anything specific, etc...

From what you posted you are not looking for anything out of the ordinary.

Age discrimination is forbidden by Fair Housing laws so I assume that you are inquiring with 55+ housing who are allowed to deny you.

If that is not the case you have a case against these places but so far people are fully aware of age discrimination and will not do that.

There is no discrimination against animals unless they are service dogs. If the place doesn't allow dogs that I their prerogative.

I agree. There are many places that fit the bill though it could hinge on price perhaps.

We would like to stay around 70-80k and want to purchase so we have no payments since our income will be reduced. 2 bedroom around the Tyrone mall area or similar for the less crime and easy access to the trail. ( close to the water without the flood insurance issue) it's going to be our home so we are not looking for the wow factor so much as the practical comfortable and safe. We will need to be able to be inside for bad weather without feeling like we are in a can. We want the 2 bedrooms so our grandkids can come spent the weekend with us from time to time. (Age 5&6)
And I should mention we are 1230 miles away and it costs an average of 1200.00 every time we come out to look..... So we are trying to be responsible with our money on the property search aspect

There are some 40 and older mobile home parks around here. I think there is one in Largo and one in Clearwater. I'm sure there are more, but you'd just have to do some digging around to find them. You could buy a really nice NEW mobile home on your budget and in a park where you own the land too. so your monthly expenses would only be about $150 or so.
