The humidity is why folks living in Tampa go to Phoenix in the summer (seriously). I'm in NM now, but when I lived in Tampa I'd go to PHX a lot for business. A friend from the FL Panhandle area met me there one year and we took the Verde Canyon rail ride. After chatting a bit we realized over half our car was from FL, including about 4 others from the Tampa area. The AZ folks asked us why did we come to AZ in July, when it was so hot. The AZ folks thought we were nuts. Every single one of us had the same answer. The dry heat was cooler.

OP, you should check out ABQ and Santa Fe, up the road from you. All 4 seasons, none extreme, and nice folks. We have a rush half hour in ABQ.

I must admit, though, I do miss driving across Tampa Bay on a gorgeous spring day!

When I entered the temparature of 88 with a dewpoint of 75 ( St. Pete weather conditions today), it returned a heat index of 98, just like weather.com said. Play with it a little, it's fun!

Here is the formula they use, it's way above my head

Thanks, that's added to my favorites list!
