Question Down to Brandon/ North Port

My husband and I, with our 5yr old, plan on moving to Florida in July to be closer to his family in Ft. Lauderdale but do not want to be in South Florida.

I'm going crazy trying to find the right city for us but believe I have finally narrowed it down to Brandon, (near Tampa) or Northport, (near Sarasota).

Northport seems to have the better schools and less crime, but would be more of a job commute.

Brandon, less of a job commute, but a little more crime. Does anyone have any information on the schools in Brandon?

Is either area safer then the other when it comes to hurricanes?

I would say Brandon would be a better move than North Port. Brandon offers more accessibility to shopping, jobs, transportation. North Port is OK, growing, but not quite there yet, and they have crime, there is crime everywhere. 75 is only 2 lanes around North Port and backed up a lot. Construction right now make driving on 75 crazy going to Sarasota or Ft. Myers.

I would have to agree. I have lived in both Bradenton & North Port. The commute from North Port gets really old, really fast. And the traffic is insane.

I love Brandon, Riverview, Seffner, Valrico, Plant City area too. I live in Lakeland because of better prices in homes and Taxes.
