I am being moved for work and I need a place asap.. I have a friend who lives in St. Petersburg at Inlet Bay but they are way overpriced and have all these little ridiculous fees that added up to over 90 more. I would prefer to be in the area of 33716.. washer and dryer in the unit is pretty important but I dont want some dump and im looking at $900 or less for a one bedroom... can anyone give any suggestions? Its hard to search online and go off what the rental company says but also hard to go off reviews from 2012.

thanks!

You could also try condo rentals in 33716 on Craigslist. There are at least a dozen condo communities in that zip code as well.

Even if you're not renting off Craigslist, it is a good way to see what is out there.

I rented from a realtor... who advertises on Craigslist.

If you're not familiar with condos... they are privately owned, but part of a community. (seems simple, but I've met several people who don't know what they are...)

In the Tampa Bay area, there are many condos which are rented. You don't have the same politics that an apartment complex has. Your appliances may be very different from your neighbors... Newer renovations, etc. Some landlords are more liberal with painting, etc.

There can also be more restrictions... My condo only allows one pet. I have to park in my reserved spot, and visitors have marked spots.

I also have the stability of the community. Many of the condos are occupied by their owners. My next door neighbor has been here 20 years.

Look at condos... the rent is similar to apartments. My lease is also more flexible than the apartment when I moved down here. Ever year the rent would go up in the apartment...another 20-30 dollars-- and I was locked into another year lease.

With the condo and the house I rented, I have a one year lease, and after that it is month to month...

Check out your options...

There are more rentals available on CL than any other source, so I'm not sure why everyone is dismissing it.

I think CL is a good source. Realtors - unless they are rental specialists - dont really have any more access than you will
Trulia/Zillow/Realtor.com all good. Best thing is to shortlist a few places that look good, then ask on here for comments.
Your Panama City rent is hard to find here btw - property prices for rentals going up quite rapidly now. $900 should get you a reasonable placel with one bedroom, many dont have in unit w/d though. There are many decent ones on cl that are private - you just have to be smart and not pay any money til you have thoroughly checked ownership etc. Which is easy using tax appraiser website
