Many people may be aware of this and they can ignore this thread but for perhaps younger people or people who never dealt with this read this to be aware.

On the radio in regular programs they have doctors on the radio which later in a short disclosure will be mentioned but if you don't carefully listen to the entire part you may miss it....the disclosure is stating that this a commercial.

They will sell all kinds of products like for example vitamins.

You can get a free trial order for a 30 day supply and only pay shipping $ 4.95.

After they take your name and payment they go very fast stating a lot of stuff which if you don't pay full attention is stating that you sign up for automatic supplies every 30 days or 90 days with auto payments from you credit card unless you cancel within 30 days and they even provide you with the phone number so fast you are not able to write it down.

Of course this is not a scam since they disclose it but the way they tell you is so fast that unless you are aware of this tactic you are hooked up for a year or longer.

The trick is that they ship the trial version with a delay so by the time you get the shipment in you are 3 weeks further and by the time you know if you like the product or not you probably passed the 30 day deadline that started when you ordered it and not when you received the first full shipment or trial version.

I did order it and asked for the phone number to cancel this to be repeated and did cancel the next day. I only want to the trial version and I'm aware of this trick.

To get it cancelled is such a headache since first you get offered a discount to keep in the deal so if you are really interested in the product make sure you cancel so you get the discounted version instead of the original pricing!

Keep telling them you want to cancel and keep telling them since they will put you on hold and come back and they don't breathe but go on and on to tell you that you haven't even received the product and you can wait to cancel....I told them after interrupting them to stop giving me the rest of their story and that I was taping the conversation to make sure my order was cancelled as requested 3 times in that same phone call. Finally I got a confirmation number and put in my online banking a message to my bank that this company was given notice not to be allowed for any future auto payments, so my bank is aware as well.

I have to say that I did receive an email that my cancelation was confirmed so that is decent and has o be appreciated but I wonder if I hadn't mentioned that I taped them after they kept going on and on about discounts and that I should call back after receiving the trial version that I really wanted to cancel it.

Their trick is for you to forget and run out of time...is it a trick or not....I do believe it is a legal trick but for people who are not aware they are stuck for hundreds of dollars for the next year at least.

Buyer aware!

Good advice. Its hard to get the "fine print" in radio or TV commercials, but as you stated it is there.

On a lesser scale, magazine subscription services will do something similar. They offer a free trial issue and before you get the trial, you get a bill in the mail for a year's subscription. I used to ignore until one company actually threatened collection. So now, if this happens, I simply write in big letters CANCEL on the bill and mail it back. If you continue getting monthly issues after that, you are not liable.

Thanks for the heads up

See..this is exactly at the core of the "opt-in" vs. "opt out" rules that is in place...

Basically, the rule should have been "take the product for $4.95 now and if you like it call and order more we know our product rocks and you will come asking for more. Unless you call we won't send you more" NOT " take it for $4.95 and if you don't like it you need to cancel it and we do everything we can to make you pay." See, there is nothing for free or for $4.95 in this case. The big government that you bash every time you get a chance is trying to stop exactly this kind of practices. Unfortunately, most people can not see far enough.....

true but if you want to try a product......but people need to be aware how they can become kind of a victim due to not doing research or understanding what will happen next.
