We've been visiting for a while and love the beach. Can anyone on comment if they live on or near the above and the ability to be able to rent it when we would not use it? We'd probably be able to rent it out 5 to 6 months of the year for now, and then possibly move into it for a full 12 months.

The buildings are older and that's ok for me but not sure it's a good investment , long term.. ? Not sure about flood issues and am researching that.

Do people rent 4 to 5 months of the year here or are they more than likely to go north to Clearwater or another beach?

Thanks all.

Stay away from pinellas. Nice beaches and parks but very dangerous..terrible traffic congestion, pedestrian accident capital of America and a lot of shady neighborhoods. Sarasota area a better choice...

I live on Treasure Island and Love it. 15 minutes to Downtown st Pete, beautiful beaches, very walkable area.
Pinellas, overall, sucks for pedestrians, but that is mostly the interior of the county. Downtown St Petersburg and the beach areas are much safer for pedestrians. All the beach communities have lit crosswalks and the speed the entire Gulf Blvd is 35 mph. For biking you can hit the Pinellas trail, which is something like 26 miles.
Crime is almost non existent on many of the beach communities. Crime is higher on the busier beaches, such as St Pete Beach and Clearwater.
Madeira has a bit more crime, but that due more to some less desirable areas as opposed to more people.
