I will applaud Mr. Kiernan's granular analysis used in distinguishing one city's employment prospects versus another. But at the end of the day, I do have trouble grasping how Detroit can be a significantly better city to find a job than either Chicago or New York.

That does make one wonder about the credibility of this report.

And you have nothing better to do than to trash FL? At least I like it here and am not unhappy.

Detroit is on the upswing many new business locating there Sirius radio moved the hq there. Quicken loans is there taxes are much lower in Detroit compared to Chicago and new York. In fact Chicago is not that far behind Detroit in going bk. Also the big 3 are hireling again. They say Detroit is one of the cities to make a strong comeback acording to msn. Detroit has a strong metro aera Oakland county is one of the richest counties in the country. Also Michigan has no toll roads no turnpikes . We also have some of the best university's in the country UM, Michigan state,Eastern. Also some of the best health care in the country. And dam good sports teams. Little ceases , Domino's , Hungry Howies, Jets, pizza headquarter's are located there. Also Dow Chemical, Kellogg, Lear, Masco, Maytag, whirlpool,TRW, Pulte Homes, Kelly Services, Federal Mogul , BorgWarner, ArvinMeritor, Dana, Delphi, UnitedHealthgroup. So you see Michigan has allot going for it. Also the best hunting and fishing in the country with the great lakes. Michigan has one sales tax 6% through out the state. And michigans state tax is only 4.25%. Now what is it in NY or Chicago a hell of allot more. So that's why Detroit and Michigan are on a comeback.

This article may shed some light on why it is and will be harder to find a job in NYC

http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/20...ype=blogs&_r=0

Also, Chicago has a 8.4 unemployment rate as of April.
