I wonder how much of the Clearwater charitable deductions went to "The Church". I'm betting enough to skew the numbers all to hell.

I agree with vaughn.
Interesting data. Overall I see Tampa in general is not great on donations.

It seems to be spread pretty evenly.

My in-laws give 10% to their church. Not sure if that is the norm.

Glad ya'll have some humor about the title. I was just having some fun. That cited site shows the national average at 4.7% of income reported as given to charity.

So while Clearwater as some noticed might be an outlier, more affluent Westchase at 40% below the national average and south Tampa Hyde Park at about 25% below the national average, those seems somewhat telling. To compare with other affluent areas:

Palm Beach 33480 at 7.6%
Highland Beach 33487 at 4.1%
Miami Beach at 5.6%
Longboat Key at 7.2%
Yet, again
Westchase 2.9%
Hyde Park 3.5%

So, like the stats show on the sexual offender thread, I think this speaks somewhat to quality of life issues. Where are people not friendly enough and where are people too friendly. haha. In fact, I have friends I've made here who left south Tampa, not because of money, they've plenty, but because of the attitudes they found there. And they happen to be very giving people. So while there might be some outlying stats, some of this is telling of the character of an area.

One of my dear friends from grade school recently found out that he's broke. He's been making six figures for decades. His wife who is leaving him now--which is how he found out about the funds he thought for all these years she was handling responsibly--has been giving it all to her church.

There's giving. And then there's getting taken.

Maybe the affluent mentioned consider their taxes already one big charitable donation....afterall, our gov't gives it away like candy with all the social entitlement programs that dominate gov't spending.
