Have you actually read Florida's texting while driving law? Aside from it being a secondary offense, meaning an officer can't stop someone just for that, it's so complicated that it's almost completely unenforceable. There have been very few tickets issued for violating the law, and many of the ones that are contested in court end up being dismissed.

Note to those wondering where the $158 goes. [and to those who believe the camera companies are not getting anything]
$70 to State [general fund]
$3 to brain and spinal injury fund
$10 to Health Admin Trust fund
$37.50 to locality with camera
$37.50 TO CAMERA COMPANY PLUS $5000 PER CAMERA, PER MONTH RENTAL/MAINTENANCE FEE
The camera company gets a cut of every citation issued. Ya think maybe they don't want yellow time increased? ATS, one of the camera companies gave $525,000 in campaign and donations to Florida politicians between 2008-2013 to stop efforts to abolish the law or any attempts to fix the problems with it. They also have a dozen lobbyists to make sure politicians 'do the right thing'.
There are hundreds of millions of dollars at stake for them. Again, this year as in past years, bills have been filed to fix the problems [i.e. extend yellow time] but went nowhere.

That's exactly why I mentioned that this is ridiculous since these companies are biased and I applaud the people who went to court and showed that the yellow light time frame was shortened and basically the people who got a ticket were defrauded.

These companies should have been held liable for a huge settlement above the pay back of the ticket fees. That will take the biased away.

When I hear a politician stating it is all about safety I always think about how the money is rolling in for them and that is overall more important to them than safety...exceptions aside.

NO. My question is why can't *I* get a check in the mail when I catch people running a red light? If you don't like it, don't run a red light but you're not even letting me catch people so why do these select companies get the honor of doing it? Why not anyone who has sufficient proof?

Its obvious that this is crony capitalism.
