The City has announced that their red light cameras are working so well that drivers are receiving less citations for running red lights. At the same time, the City announced that many more red light cameras will be installed [to make up for the lost revenue].

That's a shame. I find that red light cameras and corruption go hand-in-hand.

Why can't I record somebody running a red-light and then have the state force them to pay me?

Puzzles me how people so willingly give up their money to these devices when its so easy to avoid.

These red light camera programs are sold to cities by companies who promise big bucks coming into the city in fines. Over time, the cities realize they aren't getting the money they thought they would. The companies over-sell their product using high estimates of number of violations. The cities don't factor in how many people will still fight the tickets, the cost to fight off legal challenges to the system etc.

A lot of cities bail out after a few years. It's the private company that makes the big bucks.

It's all a moneymaker and why you see so many rearend collisions. In Michigan there are no red light cameras or toll roads. Freeway is just like it sounds free.

I'm more shocked how the interest of the companies installing them is so high that it easily can cause fraud.
These companies get paid a certain percentage of every ticket...that incentive is bad in my opinion.

We already have seen that shorter time frames for yellow lights cause the amount of tickets to go up...

I hope they save lives. I see so many people running red lights! Don't want to get fined, then don't run a red light. I'm amazed out people drive in our area. I don't want people to die.
