Hi!
My family and I are interested in buying a condo in the Tampa area, it'll simply be a winter retreat for a couple months a year (on and off), so our needs are relatively few - close proximity to a beach, somewhat close to shopping etc etc. We found a place off Wilcox Rd, specifically west of Vonn Rd. I was wondering what we can expect from that neighborhood.

I've encountered both positive and negative reviews about the city but it seems to be centered mostly around the Largo downtown/northern area. I heard Dunedin and Clearwater may be more viable, but I'm hoping that Largo can provide what we're looking for.

Thanks for your help, we do plan to check the various areas out prior to purchasing but I would certainly appreciate some insight from people living in the area since it'll help narrow down the search considerably.

Thanks!

Adam

West of Vonn Rd is fine, if adjacent to Largo Golf-course (there's a cemetery around the corner though) . Vonn Rd gets more expensive south of Walshingham, some very nice houses. Is it next to Somerset Apts? Overall it's a nice area(the only area of concern is close to Ridgecrest Elementary, look it up on Google maps), maybe zoom down to street level.

Yes, negative reviews are mostly for the areas around downtown. As far as I know, these are unincorporated areas, about a mile or so from the beach(different story).

Thanks Trigger!

That's great information, I appreciate it.

There are a few apartments available in the area so I was using Vonn Rd as the general border, probably in the Whispering Palms condo area... I will definitely check it out.

With any property, drive around the area and see exactly what is there. You could be downwind of a sewage treatment plant or a glue factory. If it checks out then you are good to go.

I know of an area where a number of people bought without checking and then complain that the railroad is too noisy. The railroad was built in 1908.

Just moved into an apartment on Walsingham accross from the Golf course and we have been very happy with the area. Close to everything (Beaches, largo Mall, parks) and the people have been extremely nice. Fairly new to the area still but we haven't had any problems. We could easily ride our bikes to the beach

Ha, I know what you mean...I'll be sure to do my due diligence, I was just wondering if it was worth keeping on the list because of the negativity I've read about the city itself.

That's awesome, I'm glad it's working out so well for you. I'll be sure to check the area and the condo out. I appreciate everyone's responses! Definitely keeping it on the top of the list!
