I would like to come to florida in a few weeks just to enjoy the warmer weather (i live in NY). I have NO idea which city to go to as i am completely unfamiliar with the state. I am basically looking for somewhere quiet with a nice beach. Not too touristy. Any recommendations?

In the Tampa area I prefer Pass-A-Grille Beach(look up info at www.floridasbeach.com and choose Pass-a-Grille - about 35 minutes from downtown Tampa), and also exploring Fort DeSoto Park's north beach nearby to Pass-a-Grille....a lil south of Tampa, about 45 minutes, is Anna Maria Island.(http://www.amichamber.org/) January is not as crowded as February through Easter. Have you posted on the Florida Forum to get suggestions from posters throughout the state? Last edited by tampaguy03; 12-19-2007 at 10:18 AM.. |

If you're coming to the Gulf side, I'd recommend Sarasota. Siesta Key is frequently voted one of the best beaches in the country. Beach side rentals are reasonable.
