A big one opened up. I hope it is nowhere near our friend SH.

I wonder if it is really a true sinkhole, or washout?

Sinkhole opens in Spring Hill neighborhood - WFLA News Channel 8

"A sinkhole has opened up in a residential neighborhood on Eldridge Road near Van Allen Way in Spring Hill.

The sinkhole is estimated to be about 40 by 40 yards and about 30 feet deep."

Yup, I've been checking stories out about this for the last hour or so. It's about 4 miles or so (as the crow flies) from where I'm at.

Glad it wasn't closer.

I just spoke with her. Thankfully she is out of town right now, but it is literally right down the street from her house. She said she afraid to turn on the news and see it.

OMG...im amazed how the cops and bystander are so close and seem to be so calm while you never know what happens.

Here's a question … if the homeowner does not carry sinkhole coverage, how will the repair be handled? Obviously the county will take care of the road, but what about the homeowner's driveway? Would this be covered under catastrophic?

I believe catastrophic will cover if four conditions are met:

1) House is deemed uninhabitable by local officials.
2) House is structurally damaged
3) Ground has visibly collapsed
4) Depression visible to naked eye

If it's a washout and was caused by a broken water pipe or something, that might shift some liability/expense.
