I read that W. W. water park (near Spring Hill) is going to be owned and run by the state and that the water slide and some other things are coming down, the mermaids are staying and some new stuff will be added on and built. Do you think this to be a good move?

Default Hi House4Sale

Read the same article, but in I believe the Hernando Today, Commissioner Diane Rowden and Kingsley said that they want in on the talks also, because the Springs are in Hernando Cty and they could run the park just as well as the state. My own opinion is keep the money in Hernando Cty, Mr. Fagan does a good job with our other parks and the money/revenue from the park would help Hernando Cty. I'm afraid if the state gets its hand on it, that admission prices will climb, the slide torn down (the kids will have a fit) and there's also a possibility that the state might decide to sell the springs water to St. Pete, which I read in the paper some months ago, would put a drain on the springs.

As it is now the attraction isn't doing very well????? Rode by there today and maybe 25 cars in the lot. Either way, I think Hernando Cty should take it over and benefit from it..........its our park for the last 60 yrs.

I grew up in central FL and wanted to be a WW mermaid when I grew up! (Okay, or a can can dancer at Six Gun Territory, but that is long gone!)

Took my kids there summer before last and they loved it, although it wasn't what I remembered. Just from that perspective alone, I am thrilled. So many of the springs that we floated down as kids are now developed. I know my opinion is not based on the big picture and will follow this thread to get the rest of the story.

WW is so Florida. I would hate for it to be gone from the public forever.

Thanks for the info, Songbird. I hope it stays in current hands but gets expanded with some new attractions. That would make it a bigger draw and more revenue to the area.

HIF, the springs sound wonderful. I'll have to actually visit the place someday.

Default Mermaids

I've been there for the art shows that were there in the past, the first time I was ever there was in the 70's, the beach wasn't there and there was a river ride where the beach is now. I remember seeing the mermaids swimming, it was quite amazing how they did their show, if I remember correctly there was also a bird show. In todays' paper they say that the county is out of the picture.........everyone should write to the commissioners and ask them to fight for our county attraction, this is part of what Hernando Cty is all about. OK its not Disney or Universal, but this is our diamond in the rough and it should stay with us, not the state.

Default Thanks...

for the answers to my questions. So I take it Cracker Barrel will not be built on Commercial along with Huddle and the hotel? Least they came through with J.C. Pennys. Maybe they'll attach a nice new mall to Pennys. Hope so.

No, it's not Disney or Universal...that's exactly why it should be preserved- it is old Florida- when we used to call them "attractions" instead of theme parks!

I hope that you all prevail.

Default H4s

The JC Penney opens in March, 2008, its a huge building looks nice their just putting in the landscaping, Cracker Barrel I'm assuming will break ground soon.
Of course, with new shopping centers comes traffic, which I'm not a big fan of but if it will bring decent paying jobs, I'll contend with it.

My guy worked construction on the Pennys and said it's nicer and bigger than some of their other stores. Probably bigger than the Sears on Cortez. Good for you all.
