Hello and Happy Holidays-
We are looking at a possible move to Tampa, any suggestions on great neighborhoods? Our daughter will most likely attend Tampa Preparatory which is on Cass and my husband will be at Haley VA Hospital. So we're interested in neighborhoods in between the 2 places or somewhat close to either would be great! Upscale, safe neighborhood, new homes or built after 2002 preferred. Thanks and all advice is much appreciated!

I would advise you live near your daughter's school, in South Tampa. But homes there are mostly historic and renovated, there might be some new homes, but no big developments. It will be easier to commute from Tampa north to J. Haley than it will be from up there into the city.
You're in a catch 22, the new homes you describe are mostly in the northern most part of the county, but because of that fact, the commute from there into the city makes for crowded roads.
I'm sure a good realtor could find a solution for you, they shouldn't be too busy. Avoid the morning commute from North to South.
Good luck and, possibly, welcome to Tampa.

Thanks eastern roamer, for the feedback. Is South Tampa considered a safe area? Are there new developments east or west?

South Tampa is considered a safe area..and there are lots of new construction homes in the area, but can be costly due to the desirable location. Are you looking to be closer to your daughters school or husbands workplace? Are you looking for a suburban atmosphere, gated communities, chain and big box stores..you may want to seek out newer homes in the Carollwood area, just northwest of the city.

Actually, we are not big fans of chain and big box stores! But are somewhat leaning to gated communities. Not terribly concerned with being closer to the hospital or the school, just prefer to be in the general vicinity of both. Looking around 500K, it would be great to be close to her school for once, will definitely look around south Tampa new homes. Thanks!

If I may give another 2 cents... I feel safer with neighbors close by who I know and trust (within reason) than I feel in a gated community where people tend to not associate with one another.
Gates give a false sense of security. It's usually bad neighbors who rip you off, and they can live behind the same gates you do.
Check out South Tampa.

Brandon is a nice area as well. A great place to raise the family.

As you may possible know, J.A. Haley Hospital is on Bruce B Downs between Fowler and Fletcher avenues.......and only a few minutes from the New Tampa area. There are many gated communities in New Tampa and I think the oldest neighborhoods are roughly 15 years old......and you can buy a very nice home in your price range there. It may be worth a look...

Carrollwood Village may also work for you.

Hopefully TampaKaren will offer advice; she's very knowledgeable when it comes to neighborhoods and living situations in the northern regions of the county.

Good luck!
